Budapeste, um segredo bem guardado | Budapest, a well-kept secret

Hoje podemos aqui afirmar que ninguém fica indiferente a Budapeste. A magnifica capital Húngara tem ao longo de décadas conquistado cada vez mais turistas e todos os que a visitam saem, tal como nós, completamente apaixonados pela cidade.

Today we can state that nobody is indifferent to Budapest. The magnificent Hungarian capital has for decades conquered more and more tourists and all who visit it leave, just like us, completely in love with the city.

Estivemos em Budapeste um total de 4 dias aquando do nosso roteiro de 9 dias pelo centro da Europa como já vos contámos aqui e deixámo-la para trás com a sensação de que ainda muito ficou por ver.

We were in Budapest for a total of 4 days on our 9-day European Central tour as we have told you here however, we have still left with the feeling that much remains to be seen.

Hoje vamos contar-vos o que andámos a fazer no nosso primeiro dia pela Pérola do Danúbio.

Today we are going to tell you what we did on our first day by the Pearl of the Danube.

Como ficámos alojados bem perto do Parlamento Húngaro foi mesmo por aqui que começámos a nossa visita. Este edifício é a sede da Assembleia Nacional da Hungria e é também dos edifícios legislativos mais antigos da Europa. Encontra-se localizado nas margens do Danúbio e junto à praça Kossuth Lajos sendo que é também o segundo maior parlamento da Europa.

As we stayed very close to the Hungarian Parliament it was here that we began our visit. This building is the seat of the Hungarian National Assembly and is also the oldest legislative building in Europe. It is located on the banks of the Danube and next to the Kossuth Lajos square, and it’s also the second largest parliament in Europe.

A sua construção inciou-se em 1885 e ficou terminado em 1904 apesar de ter sido inaugurado em 1896 e encontra-se decorado com mais de 40 kg de ouro e pedras preciosas.

Its construction began in 1885 and was completed in 1904 although it was inaugurated in 1896 and it is decorated with over 40 kg of gold and precious stones.

O seu aspecto imponente não passa despercebido a ninguém e é provavelmente a atração mais visitada em Budapeste e a primeira em que nos lembramos quando falamos da cidade.

Its imposing appearance is not overlooked by anyone and is probably the most visited attraction in Budapest and the first one we remember when we talk about the city.

Descemos as escadas junto ao parlamento e continuámos o nosso passeio junto ao Danúbio em direcção à Chain Bridge, mas antes de aqui chegarmos passámos pelos “Sapatos à beira do Danúbio”, um memorial concebido pelo realizador Can Togay e executado pela escultora Gyula Pauer em honra aos judeus mortos pelo partido fascista Húngaro durante a 2ª Guerra Mundial. Estas pessoas foram ordenadas a se descalçar, foram baleadas e subsequentemente caíram ao rio Danúbio tendo sido arrastadas pela corrente.

We descended the stairs next to the parliament and continued our walk along the Danube towards the Chain Bridge, but before we arrived we passed the “Shoes on the Danube”, a memorial designed by the director Can Togay and executed by the sculptor Gyula Pauer in honor to Jews killed by the Hungarian fascist party during World War II. These people were ordered to take off their shoes, were shot and subsequently fell to the Danube River having been swept away by the current.

Continuámos pelas margens do segundo maior rio europeu antes de irmos almoçar (falaremos noutro post sobre os melhores sítios para almoçar em Budapeste).

We continued along the banks of the second largest European river before we went for lunch (we’ll talk soon about the best places to have lunch in Budapest).

A nossa paragem seguinte foi o controverso “Memorial às vítimas da invasão Alemã” e a sua controvérsia deve-se ao facto de ter sido erguido às escondidas durante a escuridão da noite, altamente guardado por tropas Húngaras e que inicialmente seria para celebrar a ocupação Alemã da Hungria em 1944, um dos poucos aliados da Alemanha Nazi.O monumento mostra-nos a águia, símbolo da Alemanha a atacar o arcanjo Gabriel sendo por isso, considerado pelos húngaros, como um monumento falso e travestido cujo principal objectivo é alterar a veracidade dos factos e camuflar a cumplicidade da Hungria com a Alemanha Nazi.

Our next stop was the controversial “Memorial to the Victims of the German Invasion,” and its controversy stems from the fact that it was erected in secret during the darkness of the night, heavily guarded by Hungarian troops and initially intended to celebrate the German occupation of Hungary in 1944, one of the few allies of Nazi Germany. The monument shows us the eagle, a symbol of Germany attacking the archangel Gabriel which considered by the Hungarians as a false and transvestite monument whose main objective is to change the veracity of the facts and camouflage the complicity of Hungary with Nazi Germany.

Continuámos o nosso passeio pela zona central e pedonal da cidade até que nos deparamos com a majestosa Basílica de Santo Estevão, a maior igreja da Hungria com capacidade para 8500 pessoas e que em conjunto com o parlamento húngaro são os edifícios mais altos da cidade. A basílica seduz pela sua magnifica fachada, pela sua cúpula que em 1868 teve de ser demolida e reconstruída de novo e pelos seus sinos entre os quais se encontra o maior sino da Hungria com cerca de 9250 kg.

We continued our walk through the central and pedestrian zone of the city until we came across the majestic Basilica of St. Stephen, the largest church in Hungary with a capacity of 8,500 people and that together with the Hungarian Parliament are the tallest buildings in the city. The basilica seduces by its magnificent facade, by its dome that in 1868 had to be demolished and reconstructed again and by its bells among which is the biggest bell of Hungary with about 9250 kg.

A paragem seguinte foi Erzébet ter, a maior área verde no centro de Budapeste e que recebeu o nome de Elisabete devido a “Sisi” mulher do Imperador Francisco Habsburgo. Ao longo da história viu o seu nome ser alterado para Stalin em 1946, Engels em 1953 e recuperou o seu nome original em 1990. A principal atração da praça é a Fonte Danubius localizada no seu centro e que simboliza os rios da Hungria.

The next stop was Erzébet ter, the largest green area in the center of Budapest and which received the name of Elizabeth due to “Sisi” wife of the Emperor Francis Habsburg. Throughout history its name was changed to Stalin in 1946, Engels in 1953 and regained its original name in 1990. The main attraction of the square is the Danubius Fountain located in its center and which symbolizes the rivers of Hungary.

Quando visitámos a praça estava a decorrer o Festival da Primavera e a praça estava bastante animada e repleta de barraquinhas a vender produtos artesanais e produtos gastronómicos típicos do país. Aqui provámos o famoso Kürtőskalács também conhecido como bolo chaminé e após provarmos e adorarmos o primeiro muitos outros se seguiram.

When we visited the square the Spring Festival was taking place and the square was very lively and full of stalls selling handicrafts and typical gastronomic products of the country. Here we tasted the famous Kürtőskalács also known as chimney cake and after tasting the first one many others followed.

Percorremos todo o centro da cidade passando pelas principais ruas comercias da cidade que a um sábado estavam repletas de gente. Dirigimo-nos para as margens do Danúbio novamente e sentámo-nos junto à
Ponte Elisabeth, que liga Buda a Pest, onde ficámos sentados a recuperar energia enquanto a nossa filha dormia.

We walked through the center of the city passing through the main shopping streets of the city that on a Saturday were full of people. We drove to the banks of the Danube again and sat down next to the Elisabeth Bridge, linking Buda to Pest, where we sat down to recover energy while our daughter was sleeping.

O dia estava prestes a chegar ao fim, mas antes disso passámos novamente pelo Spring Festival, mas desta vez a decorrer junto ao Parque Vigadó tér onde provámos o nosso primeiro Langós, uma espécie de pão frito com natas e queijo por cima.

The day was about to come to an end, but before that we passed the Spring Festival again, but this time around the Vigadó tér Park where we tasted our first Langós, a kind of fried bread with sour cream and cheese on top.

Estava assim terminado o nosso primeiro dia em Budapeste, e que dia! Ficámos apaixonados por Budapeste. E nos próximos posts iremos contar-vos mais sobre este amor.
