Our second day in Athens began really early and after a relaxing night it was time to set out to discovery the greek capital.
As we previously mentioned, here, this was the first big trip with our baby so we had to make some adjustments to the way we travel.

We started our day by going to Syntagma Square and here we hopped in one of those touristic buses that would let us see the main attractions faster and more efficiently without having difficulties carrying our baby from place to place.

We chose to buy the ticket for all the bus lines and we were surprised to know that we were able to negotiate the price and get a really good discount. Don’t buy it online!

The first sight we visited was the Panathenaic Stadium, built in 566 b.c. and renovated in marble in 329 b.c.. In 140 a.d. it saw its capacity grow up to 50000 people and in 1896 was renovated again for the first Olympic Games of the modern era.

Near the Panathenaic Stadium we can find the Adrian’s Arch that is in fact a Monumental Gate that went through an old street from the centre of Athens to a building complex in the east side of the city that included the Temple of Olympian Zeus.

From the city centre we went to Piraeus , a neighbouring town next to Athens, in which is located the city port, one of the biggest and most important ones, where thousand of ferries and cruises connect to the islands.
In this area is also possible to appreciate the Athenian Riviera with transparent and turquoise waters.

Back in the centre we chose to leave the bus  near the Acropolis Museum and to visit it. As the name suggests here we can find archeological artifacts found in the Acropolis. It was built to keep everything found during the escavations from the Greek Bronze Era until the Roman and Bizantine empires.
On the top of the building there is a restaurant facing the Acropolis and during the hot summer months is a good shelter from all the hit that we feel walking around the city.

After this relaxing break to appreciate the greek culture and to take care of our daughter we set out to visit the highlight of our trip, the Acropolis of Athens.
We the hit giving us a break, we chose the end of the day to visit the monument and it was the right thing to do.

The Acropolis is the most famous one in the world and is located in top of a rocky hill, 150 metres above the sea level. In it we can find some of the most important ancient buildings such as the Parthenon and the Erecteion.

After just a few minutes in line (we have read that sometimes we have to wait for hours) we started our climb. The path is easy to walk on but we don’t recommend baby strollers. To reach the top we took more or less 20 minutes and we carried our baby in the baby carrier.

We felt incredibly happy visiting all the places that we have learned about in our history lessons, and since history was one of my favourite subjects I could not hide the excitment that I was feeling inside of me.

We passed through all the iconic builidings that are part of the Acropolis such as th Theatre of Dionysus Eleuthereus, Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Temple of Atena Nike, Propylaea, the famous Parthenon, the Old Temple of Athena and the Erechtheion.

After so much history and so many emotions we entered the bus for the last time and set out to Omonia Square, one of the most central and important squares in the city. It is also a comercial area visited by almost all of Athenians.
